Staying at Home and Well

Hygiene at Home

With more and more people living and working from home it is time start considering how you adjust your hygiene to suit your needs at home.

Your office space is probably cleaned once or even twice a week and the toilets may have been very frequently cleaned. Now you are working from home and you have an obligation to keep yourself motivated and well.

What are some great ideas which might help you stay clean and hygienic in your new work/home environment.

1. Make sure to use you the hand basin to wash your hands.
2. Try to keep the kitchen for cleaning the dishes and meal preparation.
3. Your hall table or coffee table might be a good place to place hand sanitiser and hand cream together as an extra hygiene station.
4. I recommend sticking with hand towels for hand drying and washing them in a hot wash regularly (for the purposes of this blog, regularly = once a week).
5. Tea-towels are the best alternative for drying things in the kitchen. You could keep two or three of different colours, one for food, one for dishes, one for hands.
6. Place a drop of hospital grade disinfectant in water and damp down a cloth with this solution to wipe down your desk, light switches and door handles once a week.
7. Place a Bathmat down in the bathroom to keep you feet clean and dry; wash it regularly.
8. Have shoes ready to slip on for when you step outside.
9. Kitchen mats are great for keeping your feet clean and dry too.
10. A floor mat for your front door and back door with keep dirt from entering the property.
11. An air purifier works wonders to cleanse the air or try a salt lamp for de-ionising, an oil burner for air sanitising, and a fan to help keep the air circulating.
12. Keep your feet warm with an electric foot warmer (slippers might do) and keep a cardigan over your chair to combat temperature changes.
13. Limit your trips to the fridge by setting a timer to let you know when break times are and keep fresh water at your desk.
14. Include your office chair and keyboard in your weekly cleaning rounds.
15. Your toilet will be used more frequently too so wipe it top to bottom with a microfibre cloth you can put straight in the washing machine in a seperate load with your other towels and cleaning cloths. Use your preferred air sanitiser/deodoriser.
16. Adding a sanitiser to your washing machine is a good alternative to a hot wash and hanging things in the sun is the ultimate sanitiser.
17. Save your carpet and flooring by wearing soft indoor shoes and vacuuming once a week.
18. Use a carpet sweeper or AI vacuum to keep your floors lint and dust free while you are all busily working from home.
19. Use a soft mop on your timber floors to keep them shining throughout the week.
20. Clean all surfaces weekly for the freshest home office you could possibly want.

To maintain motivation levels try to stay in contact with the office via messaging and emails. Get plenty of feedback and information by staying in the loop.

Cleaning affirmation statement: I will not get sick if I stay clean!!

Note for over-excited cleaner types: I will not buy more than the necessary amount of cleaning products and tools.

Good luck and stay healthy and motivated at home.
